ROSA ON REVENGE / ROR PROJECT

Rosa On Revenge began during a university design project and gradually developed into something more personal, conceptual and ongoing.

It is not intended to function as a traditional brand. It exists as a philosophy, an ideology and a form of expression through clothing, graphics and storytelling.

Created by a design graduate with a strong passion for visual communication, ROR acts as an outlet for thoughts, emotions, observations and stories that may otherwise be difficult to express directly.

The name is Rosa On Revenge, not Rosa Revenge.

Rosa On Revenge represents the idea of staying in control of revenge rather than allowing revenge to take control.

The project challenges the urge for retaliation by looking beneath it, at mistakes, unresolved situations, anger, regret, past experiences and the thoughts that can remain long after an event has passed.

Instead of allowing those feelings to exist without direction, ROR turns them into something visual.

Something that can be drawn, printed, worn, questioned and eventually released.

The stories within ROR are not limited to the experiences of its creator.

The project also draws from people, conversations, behaviour, culture, situations and events happening in the world around it. Some narratives are personal, some are observed, some are exaggerated, and others are fictional or deliberately left open to interpretation.

ROR takes these subjects and translates them into characters, symbols, graphics and collections.

The imagery often communicates what words cannot.

In that sense, the graphics become part of the conversation.

At its core, ROR is not about glorifying revenge.

It is about understanding it.

Questioning it.

And ultimately finding a path towards forgiveness.

The revenge within Rosa On Revenge is directed at revenge itself.

Alongside the heavier ideas sits another important part of the project, twisted humour.

Serious subjects are not always communicated seriously.

ROR can be strange, uncomfortable, sarcastic, exaggerated, absurd or funny while still carrying a deeper message underneath. Humour becomes another way of approaching subjects that might otherwise feel too direct or difficult to confront.

The project frequently uses cryptic characters, symbols and situations to tell stories without explaining everything.

There may be an original meaning behind a graphic, but that meaning is never completely imposed on the viewer.

One person may see tragedy.

Another may see humour.

Another may see something entirely different from what originally inspired the work.

That ambiguity is part of ROR.

The project is identified by two names: Rosa On Revenge and ROR Project.

When the letters ROR are spoken aloud, they resemble the word “raw.”

That similarity reflects the nature of the work.

Raw.

Unfiltered.

Unapologetic.

The collections are not designed to hide uncomfortable thoughts, contradictions or emotions. Instead, they use them as material.

Each garment, graphic and character becomes another part of a wider narrative exploring human behaviour, emotion, mistakes, conflict, humour, forgiveness and the world surrounding the project.

ROR was also created with the idea of an ending.

It is not intended to continue indefinitely simply because a conventional clothing brand is expected to keep producing.

The project follows a process.

Confronting.

Expressing.

Understanding.

Releasing.

And eventually reaching some form of conclusion.

IN PURSUIT OF FEELING

At the centre of ROR is the pursuit of feeling.

Part of the project explores the idea of being almost new to emotion, alone within a world full of noise, surrounded by people experiencing love, guilt, attachment, sadness, anger, empathy, grief and desire while attempting to understand what those emotions actually mean.

There are echoes of ideas sometimes associated with ASPD within this concept, although ROR does not attempt to clinically define the condition or represent the experiences of everyone living with it.

Instead, it explores the broader feeling of emotional distance.

The experience of watching human behaviour almost from the outside.

Observing how people react.

Questioning why people become attached.

Why they forgive.

Why they hate.

Why they regret.

Why something that means nothing to one person can completely consume another.

It is almost like learning the language of emotion while everyone else appears to already speak it fluently.

That search runs throughout the characters, stories and imagery of Rosa On Revenge.

Sometimes the result is uncomfortable.

Sometimes dark.

Sometimes humorous.

Sometimes deliberately confusing.

And sometimes its meaning may only become clear much later.

ROR does not always attempt to provide an answer.

Its purpose is often simply to create a reaction.

To provoke curiosity.

To create discomfort.

To create recognition.

To create humour.

To create emotion.

To make the viewer feel something.

From the outside, ROR may resemble a clothing brand.

There are garments, graphics, collections, campaigns and releases.

But it is designed to operate differently.

Rosa On Revenge is a project that uses the language and structure of fashion as its medium.

It has a beginning.

It has a developing story.

And eventually, it is intended to have an ending.

This is Rosa On Revenge.

This is the ROR Project.
